John Legend has revealed that his children were "nervous" about appearing on his new album My Favorite Dream.
On Friday, the singer-songwriter released his first kids' album, My Favorite Dream, which features lullabies and sing-alongs for children and families.
The album is dedicated to and inspired by Legend's four children - Luna, eight, Miles, six, Esti, 19 months, and Wren, 14 months.
In a new interview with Vogue, the musician revealed how his two eldest kids and wife Chrissy Teigen came to appear on one of his songs from the new album, L-O-V-E.
"Well, it came into play once I recorded a demo of L-O-V-E because I thought the song would be perfect for Chrissy and the kids to sing on," he explained. "My kids have never sung on any of my records before, but Chrissy actually sang with me on Happy Christmas (War Is Over) years ago. So I thought this would be the perfect song for them."
The All of Me hitmaker continued, "After I recorded it, I told (producer) Sufjan (Stevens) my idea of having them sing on it and he sent some background vocal ideas for them, and I had them record their parts in my studio in LA."
Legend then revealed that he thought his kids were "a little nervous" to get involved in the project.
"They were probably a little nervous," he told the publication. "They do understand that other people would listen to it; they listen to my music and come to my shows, so they're very aware of the fact I have an audience."
The singer added, "So they were excited to do it, got through it, and gave me some good enough vocals to make it work."
