Jon Bon Jovi is being praised for staying calm under pressure after he helped talk a suicidal woman away from the edge of a bridge.

The rock star was shooting a music video for his song The People's House - an upbeat funk-rock song from the band's latest album, Forever.

According to TMZ, Bon Jovi was walking on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which stretches across the Cumberland River, when he noticed a woman who had climbed over the guard railing and appeared to be ready to jump.

Video of the incident shows Bon Jovi approaching the woman, talking with her and sharing a hug. The singer and one of his assistants then help her climb back to safety, and he continues to calm the woman. Local police and firefighters arrived on the scene soon afterwards.

Officials have praised Bon Jovi for his quick thinking and help.

"A shoutout to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tue night," notes a tweet from the Metro Nashville Police Department. "Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety."

The incident happened in Nashville on Tuesday 10 September. Bon Jovi, who owns a rooftop bar and restaurant in the area has yet to comment on the incident.
