Zayn Malik has confirmed he will embark on his first ever solo tour later this year.

The former One Direction star made a brief appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Kimmel to share the exciting news.

Zayn caused a stir on Tuesday evening by interrupting Jimmy's monologue to play a snippet of his music on a laptop before handing the TV host a note to share with viewers.

"Hey Jimmy. great to see you, mate. Going on my first ever solo tour this autumn," read the message. "So when you're done picking apples with your buds you can come check out my Stairway to the Sky Tour across the US and the UK. I'm making an official announcement tomorrow morning."

Zayn also shared a black-and-white teaser on his Instagram account, which showed the Pillowtalk singer walking through a field. At the end of it the 31-year-old was heard saying with a laugh, "I know it took a while but we're here", as the clip turned to colour.

Since leaving One Direction in 2015 due to "stress", Zayn has gone on to release four solo studio albums.

The tour announcement follows a successful sell-out headline show at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London earlier this year, during which Zayn performed tracks from his most recent album Room Under The Stairs.
