The man convicted in rapper PnB Rock's shooting death has been sentenced to 31 years to life.
Freddie Lee Trone was convicted last month for the 2022 robbery and murder of Rock, real name Rakim Allen, at a Los Angeles restaurant.
Trone did not pull the trigger himself, but instead sent his teenage son inside to rob the victim.
The Philadelphia rapper, known for his double-platinum 2016 single Selfish, was eating lunch with his girlfriend at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles in South LA when he was approached by Trone's 17-year-old son, who demanded the rapper's expensive jewellery. When Rock refused, prosecutors say Trone's son shot the victim once in the chest and twice in the back before taking his jewellery and leaving the restaurant.
Rock was taken to a hospital, but died of his injuries. He was 30.
The son, now 19, is charged with murder but remains in juvenile court while he undergoes treatment to determine if he can be found mentally competent to stand trial. The teen has not been identified because of his age when the crime was committed.
Deputy district attorney Timothy Richardson emphasised during the trial that even someone who doesn't pull the trigger can be guilty of felony murder when they are a "major participant" who acted with "reckless indifference to human life".
