Morgan Wallen has made a large donation to support the relief effort for Hurricane Helene.

After the country music star, 31, pledged to help the flood-ravaged areas of east Tennessee and western North Carolina, he was true to his word, donating $500,000 (£373,000) to the cause.

"Those hills and hollers are very important to me in so many ways," the Cowgirls singer wrote on social media. "It's going to take a monumental effort."

Morgan, who grew up in East Tennessee, made the donation to the Red Cross via his Morgan Wallen Foundation.

On Sunday, he wrote on Instagram, "My family in East Tennessee are safe, but I know many are absolutely devastated there and in multiple states. All my prayers are geared toward those tonight....I am in contact with my team and others working on ways I can help."

The star is known for his dedication to his charitable foundation. Every concert ticket he sells gives $3 (£2.40) to the charity, and in 2023 they donated more than $1 million (£740,000) to supporting music and sports youth programs across the US.

Other country artists including Luke Combs and Eric Church, who are both from North Carolina, have also declared they will help with relief efforts.

Hurricane Helene delivered more than 76 cm of rain to parts of North Carolina on 27 September. More than 100 people have been reported dead, and many towns in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and North Carolina are inaccessible to aid due to washed-out roads.
