Hip hop icon Eve joined Capital XTRA Breakfast this morning, where she shed further light on her recent viral interaction with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj, saying opening up about her past insecurities – as documented in her new memoir – was ‘beautiful for other women to witness.’ Eve also described how her life became ‘faster and faster’ after the release of her iconic single ‘Who’s That Girl?’ in 2001.

RB: “It was also nice to see your event interactions with Nicki Minaj online as well, a lot of people have been speaking about that.
E: “I woke up that morning like, ‘whoa!’ My homeboy sent it to me, and was like, ‘Yo, have you seen this?’ I was like, ‘Nah, I didn’t.’ But I’ll tell you that was another confirmation for me, writing this book. Because that was a chapter in the book – I talk about Nicki – but I talk about her when we were doing Barbershop. I was like, ‘Do I put this in the book? Do I talk about how me being insecure about this other woman coming on set?’ And you know what? That’s life. Everybody has it in some type of way. That’s life. And it was my confirmation where I was like, ‘Wow, you never know what other people are thinking.’ Do you know what I’m saying? And it was beautiful, and I really, really appreciated it so much. So much. Yeah, and we wrote her back, because she cute!”
SM: “I think it was beautiful probably for you and for her to have that moment where you can express how you both felt at the time. And I think it was beautiful for other women to witness as well.”
E: “Yes.”
SM: “Seeing that between you two, being like, ‘Okay, we’re cool, we’re okay. It’s fine.’”
E: “We’re cool, and we can communicate. And also, as women, we really do need each other. Like, this is what we should be doing. Let’s just have a conversation.”
Eve says that her life got ‘faster and faster’ after the release of her iconic song ‘Who’s That Girl?’
RB: “How did ‘Who’s That Girl?’ the song change your life? What did your life look like at that time, and what did it look like after?”
E: “Yeah, I was basically kind of on that wave. I was right there. Like, I was that next girl – [Let There Be Eve…] Ruff Ryders, First Lady, obviously. So, ‘Who’s That Girl?’ for me, was probably my first top 40; that’s the first record that went to like top 40. So then things start changing, like radio shows start changing, I started going to fashion shows, stuff like that. Life just definitely changed. It just got faster and faster and faster.”
