Mariah Carey wowed the crowd during an appearance at the American Music Awards (AMAs) special on Sunday night.

The spectacle, held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the awards show, was staged at the LA Center Studios in Los Angeles, California.

Taking to the stage, Mariah dazzled in a white sequin strapless gown and diamond jewellery as she performed a medley of her songs Don't Forget About Us and We Belong Together while standing in front of a giant pink 'M' sign.

The 10-time AMA winner chose the songs to honour the upcoming 20th anniversary of her 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi.

Prior to the event, Mariah discussed the impact of the album in a conversation with Billboard.

"People had written me off. And the song of the decade with We Belong Together - it had to be that big of a record for me to actually have a comeback," she recalled.

The special also featured a number of other artists, with Jennifer Hudson paying tribute to the late Whitney Houston with an emotional rendition of I Loves You, Porgy from Porgy and Bess and I Will Always Love You from 1992 film The Bodyguard.

Elsewhere, RAYE performed It's A Man's World by James Brown, Green Day played new track Dilemma, and Chaka Khan and Sheila E delivered a moving version of I'm Every Woman.

Guests included Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Gloria Estefan.

The American Music Awards, a fan-voted awards show, will return in May 2025.
