Mariah Carey is open to releasing the secret grunge album she recorded in the 1990s.

The superstar made an alternative rock album titled Someone's Ugly Daughter with her friend Clarissa Dane under the moniker "Chick" while simultaneously recording her fifth studio album Daydream in 1995.

But due to pressure from record label executives who didn't want Mariah associated with the project, Someone's Ugly Daughter only received a limited release and wasn't promoted.

And during an interview for the Las Culturistas podcast that aired on Wednesday, co-host Matt Rogers asked for an update on when the Believe singer may drop the full album.

"I know, right?" Mariah replied. "I'm so mad that I haven't done that yet... but who do I drop it with?"

Accordingly, Matt and fellow co-host Bowen Yang suggested they could set up their own label and post the album on "Garage Band or something, like, a grungy thing".

"I could do that. It's a good album," she continued.

Mariah then indicated that she really enjoyed working on Someone's Ugly Daughter, for which she used the pseudonym D. Sue and originally provided lead vocals.

"O.K. You will hear it," the 55-year-old smiled. "That was just like, I was getting life from that, seriously. I should (release it), no you're right."

Back in 2022, Mariah revealed during an interview with Rolling Stone Music Now that her original recordings, before she was required to switch to only doing background vocals, are still in existence.

"This was my outlet, and nobody knew about it. Most people, I'd rather they don't even know about it until we decide exactly what happens from that quest of finding those vocals," she said. "I had no freedom during that time. That was my freedom. I would drive around with my assistant with the top down in Upstate New York, and we'd be screaming the lyrics to these songs that nobody else knew. It was my release. It was fun."

Physical copies of the official Chick album can still be found, though the tracks aren't available on streaming services.
