Liam Payne was reportedly dropped by his record label and publicist not long before he died.

The late singer is not included on Universal Music Group's list of artists, with sources reportedly telling MailOnline he was shelved by his label not long before his death.

While Liam first signed to Sony as part of One Direction, in 2016 after the group had disbanded he moved across to launch his solo career with Capitol Records, a label owned by Universal.

Universal posted a tribute to the late singer on its Instagram account on 17 October, one day after he fell to his death from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony.

"We are devastated by the tragic passing of Liam Payne," the post read. His legacy will live on through his music and the countless fans he inspired and who adored him. We send our deepest condolences to Liam's family and loved ones."

Despite the post, Universal Music Group's website does not list Liam as one of their artists.

A source told MailOnline Liam had been paid a significant sum when he first signed his solo deal. However, album sales failed to live up to expectations and his second solo record's release date had been delayed before the company eventually cut ties with him.

"Liam's advance was massive and he didn't recoup," the source reportedly said. "Out of all of the One Direction boys, Liam was on the wrong path musically."

The outlet also reported Liam's publicist had resigned in October.
