Shakira's upcoming world tour has already managed to smash one of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour records.

The Hips Don't Lie singer become the first woman to sell out five consecutive stadium shows at the GNP Seguros stadium (formerly Foro Sol) in Mexico City.

That beats Swift's record of selling out four consecutive shows at the stadium on her most recent tour.

Demand for tickets for Shakira's upcoming world tour has been fierce, forcing the singing star to delay the North American leg in order to move shows from arenas to larger stadiums.

"I'm so excited to share my best show yet with you," Shakira penned on the Instagram announcement. "Thank you all for supporting and inspiring me to keep pushing myself. I can't wait to celebrate with you in May!"

Shakira had previously announced just four shows at the stadium, but she added the fifth record-breaking sold-out show in response to extraordinary demand.

The venue - which is the second-largest stadium in Mexico City - has a capacity of 65,000.

Shakira's Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is named after the album of the same name, which she released in March. The Latin American star unveiled the music video for the lead single, Soltera, last week.
