Mariah Carey has heralded the start of the festive season with her traditional Christmas announcement.
Since 2019, the Queen of Christmas has marked the end of Halloween and the start of November with a video declaring "it's time" for the festive season to officially begin.
On Friday, in her most elaborate announcement yet, Mariah enters a spooky mansion dressed like Morticia Addams from The Addams Family and meets her husband Gomez before they do the couple's signature tango. After a short routine, Morticia pushes Gomez away, throws a dagger at him and opens a cabinet that contains a red-and-white Santa jumpsuit.
The short film then cuts to the pop diva sitting in a sleigh in the festive outfit singing, "It's time!!" in her whistle register. Gomez turns into a snowman as her 1994 holiday classic All I Want For Christmas Is You starts playing.
In an interview with The New York Times on Friday, the singer reflected on the evolution of her Christmas announcement videos.
"(At first,) it wasn't even really like an announcement," Mariah said. "People would say, 'Hey, when is it OK to put our lights up and put our tree up?' and 'When do you do it?' People would just ask me that because I guess they thought I was very Christmassy. (Now,) I love 'It's time.' It's so fun."
This year is particularly special for Mariah as it marks the 30th anniversary of All I Want For Christmas Is You.
She will be celebrating the holiday season by embarking on the Christmas Time tour across the U.S. between 6 November and 17 December.
