Cher has revealed she lost her virginity as a young teenager to get "revenge" on an older boyfriend.
In her new book, titled Cher: The Memoir, Part One, the superstar recounts how she began dating a boy from her neighbourhood at the age of 14 and they would often kiss in her bedroom.
However, Cher soon realised that the unnamed boy would treat her like an "embarrassing kid" when they were around his friends.
She also recalls how she felt humiliated when he once "ditched" her on an outing to a restaurant.
"I was so hurt when he did that, I had revenge sex with him. I had never wanted to. Otherwise, I would have done it one of the 500 other times he asked," she writes in the memoir, according to People. "But I was so angry at being dismissed, I decided to, if not lose, loan out my virginity to him."
Cher went on to describe losing her virginity as a "massively overrated experience".
"I asked him, 'Is that it? Are we finished?' Then I told him to go home and never come back," the 78-year-old continues. "I wanted him to feel just as dismissed as he'd made me feel."
And while the boy tried to contact her, she never spoke to him again.
In addition, Cher kept the experience a secret from her mother and advised her friends never to go to "fourth base".
"I reported to my friends that the 'thing' they were constantly talking about was no big deal and that they should carry on kissing," she remembers.
Cher: The Memoir, Part One, which details the Believe hitmaker's childhood, early success, and meeting her first husband Sonny Bono, is now available to purchase.
The second volume is due to be released in 2025.
