My Chemical Romance have finally paid tribute to their former drummer who died at his home in Tennessee aged 44.

"It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Bob Bryar, our former bandmate and an important part of the history of My Chemical Romance," the band said in a short post on Instagram.

"We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this time. May he rest in peace."

Bryar's badly decomposed body was found at his home on Tuesday after he was last seen alive on 4 November, TMZ reported.

Details surrounding Bryar's death remain unclear, although law enforcement sources have said foul play is not suspected. The medical examiner is investigating a cause of death.

Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 shortly after the release of the band's second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. He became the longest-tenured - and last official - drummer in the band, performing until his departure in 2010.

Bryar decided to leave music in 2014 to pursue a career in real estate.

His last social media posts show him wearing a Make America Great Again camouflage hat.

Much of his social media presence included racist and transphobic posts that have been deleted in the wake of his death.
