Matty Healy became involved in a feud with Azealia Banks on X on Tuesday after the rapper made a remark about Charli XCX.
The 1975 frontman came to the defence of the 360 hitmaker, who is engaged to his bandmate George Daniel, after the 212 rapper claimed Charli "used to be soooo pretty".
He replied, "All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you're so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro."
After the hip-hop star continued to criticise Charli and Matty's fiancée Gabbriette, the feud escalated quickly, with the singer threatening to "slap" her.
The Chocolate hitmaker swiftly deleted his message and expressed regret for threatening violence, writing, "Nah I can't be saying I'm gonna hit a girl that's insane I'm sorry. You just can't keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it's really hurtful gets me well defensive (sic)."
He later added, "Ok I'm gonna delete that tweet that was not cool even if I was angry."
The British singer then jokingly noted that he wouldn't fare well in a potential fight, posting, "She'd f**kin batter me tbf (to be fair)."
When the rap star urged Matty to follow through with his threat, he apologised to her directly, writing, "Nah fr (for real) I was just trying to match your vibe im scared now im sorry bro, i was just sticking up for my mates. Im not tough lol (sic)."
Azealia responded by sharing a close-up picture of Matty's teeth and instructing him how to take better care of them. He did not engage with her post.
