"Overwhelmed" Jelly Roll has explained why he threw his phone off a bridge.
The Son of a Sinner singer revealed he had felt stressed by the number of calls and messages he was receiving on his cell phone before he decided to toss it in a river.
"I was getting to a point that I was getting hundreds and hundreds of text messages a day. And I just was overwhelmed," Jelly Roll, 40, told his wife Bunnie Xo on her Dumb Blonde podcast, in an interview published this week.
"And then when I would finally sit down to go back through them, I would just feel like such a bad human for missing them... I was carrying a lot of guilt. This phone was causing me a lot of guilt."
The rapper and singer-songwriter had previously declared that should his Beautifully Broken Tour be a success, he would throw his device off Nashville's John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge (previously called the Shelby Street Bridge).
"I talked about this in interviews all year," he explained. "I was like, 'If this tour goes the way I want it to, I'm gonna throw my phone off the Shelby Street Bridge.'"
Jelly Roll added he hoped throwing his phone into the Cumberland River would help him become more functional in his day-to-day life.
"I wanna be a better husband. I wanna be a better father," he said. "I wanna be a better human. I wanna be a better artist."
