Elton John made light of his deteriorating eyesight as he presented an award at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
The Rocket Man legend took to the stage with singer Brandi Carlile at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles to present the award for Best Original Score and used the opportunity to poke fun at the reports about his deteriorating eyesight.
"I don't know if you know, but there's been a lot of stories going around about my regressive eyesight. I just wanted to reassure everybody that it's not as bad as it seems," he said, before launching into his joke: "I'm so pleased to be here with my co-host, Rihanna."
Brandi, who worked with Elton on the theme song Never Too Late from his documentary of the same name, opened up the envelope and read out the winners - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Challengers.
As she did so, the Tiny Dancer hitmaker balled his hands into fists and let out a loud cheer in celebration.
The 77-year-old shared in September 2024 that a severe eye infection had left him blind in his right eye and with "only limited vision" in his left.
However, Elton revealed in December during a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada Musical, for which he wrote the lyrics, that he had lost his sight altogether.
"Now, I have lost my sight and I haven't been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it," he told the crowd.
Elton and Brandi's Never Too Late was not nominated for a Golden Globe, but it is currently on the Best Original Song shortlist for the Oscars. Those nominations will be unveiled on 17 January.
