Carrie Underwood is to perform at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration later this month.

The 41-year-old former American Idol winner will sing America the Beautiful when Trump begins his second term in office on Monday 20 January.

The chart-topping singer will be joined by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club for her performance.

Political reporter Matthew Foldi broke the news of the eight-time Grammy winner's involvement in the celebrations by sharing a photograph of the program for the political ceremony.

Billboard later confirmed the news - with the singer set to perform ahead of Trump taking the Presidential Oath of Office.

While the news of Carrie's involvement in the historic ceremony has surprised some fans, others have blasted her for seemingly showing her political leaning by agreeing to take part in the ceremony.

Underwood has avoided discussing politics in the past, telling the Guardian in 2019, "I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins."

Jennifer Lopez performed at the 2021 inauguration of now-outgoing President Joe Biden - where she sang America the Beautiful as well as This Land Is Your Land.

After Trump won the 2016 elections, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square sang America the Beautiful at his inauguration in January 2017.
