Chappell Roan has declared she would be "more successful" if she "wore a muzzle".

The 26-year-old singer, who shot to fame last year, has claimed she would be further along in her career if she were less outspoken.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, the Pink Pony Club hitmaker reflected on the time she called out a photographer who was shouting at celebrities on the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

"I was looking around, and I was like, 'This is what people are OK with all the time? And I'm supposed to act normal? This is not normal. This is crazy,'" she said.

The star, who was labelled a "spoiled diva" following the incident, insisted she has no regrets about standing up for herself, explaining, "I've been responding that way to disrespect my whole life - but now there are cameras on me, and I also happen to be a pop star, and those things don't match."

Chappell, who has also set boundaries with her fans over their behaviour, went on to claim that musicians are often encouraged to keep quiet and standing up for themselves can be seen as ungrateful.

"I think, actually, I'd be more successful if I was OK wearing a muzzle," she said with a laugh. "If I were to override more of my basic instincts, where my heart is going, 'Stop, stop, stop, you're not OK', I would be bigger."

The Good Luck, Babe singer added, "I would be way bigger... And I would still be on tour right now."

Last year, Chappell faced backlash when she decided not to extend her 2024 tour to protect her mental health, a decision she attributes to her grandfather.

"There's something he said that I think about in every move I make with my career. There are always options," the pop star shared. "So when someone says, 'Do this concert because you'll never get offered that much money ever again', it's like, who cares?"

Chappell continued, "If I don't feel like doing this right now, there are always options. There is not a scarcity of opportunity. I think about that all the time."
