Billy Ray Cyrus struggled through a set filled with technical difficulties during a ball for U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday night.

The country music star, who is the father of pop star Miley Cyrus, took to the stage at the Liberty Ball, one of three inaugural presidential balls attended by Trump to celebrate his second run as U.S. President.

Battling through with a hoarse voice, Billy Ray faced his biggest problem towards the end of the set when he tried to play his hit Achy Breaky Heart on his guitar and no sound came out.

"Is my guitar still on? I think they cut me off," he told the crowd, shortly after claiming he had been asked to fill time.

Talking to the technical team backstage, the 63-year-old asked, "Is my guitar on guys? I don't hear my guitar anymore. Uh, check, is anybody awake? I don't hear it? Do y'all hear this? Where's everybody at? Is anyone back there? Can somebody turn my guitar back on? We're going to sing a little bit more."

As technicians came out and tried to fix the guitar, Billy Ray killed time by praising fellow country star Carrie Underwood for her performance during Trump's inauguration ceremony.

"Wasn't Carrie Underwood fabulous?" he said. "They had technical difficulties, too. And in life, when you have technical difficulties, you just gotta keep going. Or as President Trump would say, 'You gotta fight!'"

Carrie had to sing an a cappella version of America The Beautiful when her orchestral track cut out.

After his team failed to fix the guitar, Billy Ray launched into an a cappella version of Achy Breaky Heart as his final song of the night.

Afterwards, the musician's microphone was turned off, the lights were dimmed and he was awkwardly escorted off the stage.
