Ed Sheeran has denied claims that he attended J.K. Rowling's New Year's Eve party.

The British singer-songwriter has taken to social media to slam recent reports that he spent New Year's Eve with the Harry Potter author.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Ed and several other celebrities, including Daniel Craig and members of U2 and The Pretenders, rang in the New Year at Rowling's home in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.

The reports come as the Scottish author has faced backlash online for her controversial stance on trans rights, having previously claimed that "there are no trans kids".

On Tuesday night, Ed took to his Instagram Stories to respond to a post from broadcaster and journalist India Willoughby.

"Respectfully, India Willoughby, and any other journalist who has reported both these stories, neither are true," the Shape of You singer wrote. "I spent New Years with my friends and family."

Ed also hit back at claims that he had "brought joy" to wounded soldiers from the Israeli Defence Force at one of his concerts.

"The story about wounded soldiers at my show, was a charity that sourced tickets to my show in Cyprus last year, which was a large scale public concert," the 33-year-old clarified. "This kind of reporting is divisive and damaging, please research before you post things."

In response, India wrote in a post on X, "Hi @edsheeran- this is great to hear. I used the word 'reportedly' about JK Rowling's NYE party, because it was widely reported by UK and international media at the time."

She added, "I also reached out directly to you in the first wk (sic) of Jan via Twitter to ask if the story was correct - but no reply. Delighted to hear you didn't go!"
