Trace Cyrus has revealed he and his siblings are "genuinely worried" about their father Billy Ray Cyrus.

Days after the Achy Breaky Heart singer's disastrous performance at one of Donald Trump's post-inauguration events, his son penned an open letter on Instagram in which he expressed concern for his father's wellbeing.

The Metro Station musician, who was adopted by Billy Ray after he married his mother Tish, indicated that his sisters Miley, Noah and Brandi feel the same way.

"Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you," he wrote alongside a throwback photo. "Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away."

The 35-year-old added that his youngest sister, Noah Cyrus, has "desperately" wanted Billy Ray to be involved in her life but he "hasn't been there for her" and yet they both "still idolize" the country music star.

"We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You're not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it," Trace continued. "As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon."

The musician then declared that he feels "amazing" after being sober for a year and a half and offered to help Billy Ray with his issues.

"I don't know what you're struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I'd love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you," he concluded.

Billy Ray has yet to comment on his son's post. However, he has defended his much-criticised performance, insisting he and the crowd "had a blast" and "you just had to be there".

The 63-year-old also had a difficult time last year when his seven-month marriage to singer Firerose came to an end with a messy and highly-publicised divorce. During the proceedings, he accused her of trying to isolate him from his children.

Billy Ray and his family have been subject to estrangement speculation in recent years and Miley fuelled it last year when she didn't mention him in her Grammys speech and side-stepped a question about the rumours during a subsequent interview.
