Sam Asghari has candidly shared his thoughts on the conservatorship Britney Spears was forced to live under.
The 30-year-old model and actor was married to chart-topping star Spears, 43, from 2022 until 2024 and they dated for five years before their nuptials.
Asghari was at Spears's side, therefore, as she battled to free herself from her conservatorship - which was finally lifted in 2021 after 13 years.
Reflecting on his time with the Toxic singer during an appearance on the Sibling Revelry podcast, the model shared his horror over the permissions his now ex-wife was forced to request while under the control of her conservators.
He said, "Everything was going really well until one day I started learning about what the conservatorship is. That's when I was like, 'Wait a minute. I thought I'm in America. What do you mean?
"'What do you mean that someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?' and all these ridiculous things. I'm very new to this, everybody is, it's such a ridiculous thing in this country to have to deal with."
He added, "That was by far - I'm not going to say difficult, because I don't think anything is difficult - that was the weirdest thing to deal with. Which is really strange to say, in Hollywood and entertainment."
Spears herself revealed the heartbreaking conditions she was forced to live under when she gave testimony in court while battling to free herself.
She revealed that she was denied the right to have more children and even forced to use birth control - and was even banned from getting married while at the mercy of those granted the legal right to control her, which included her father, Jamie Spears.
