Katy Perry reacts to Carrie Underwood replacing her as judge on American Idol
Katy Perry has finally reacted to Carrie Underwood replacing her as judge on American Idol.
It's been six months since former Idol star Carrie was announced as the replacement for Katy's seat on the show.
The I Kissed a Girl singer hadn't yet spoken publicly about how she felt about the new hire.
Now she's told how she believes that the show is in great hands with Carrie onboard.
"She was born on that show," Katy told People magazine. "I think she knows how to steer it."
She also believes that Carrie, who competed on the show in 2005, will be able to bring a new perspective to the show.
"She actually truly knows ... what it feels like to be in (the contestants') shoes," the 40-year-old said. "We could only metaphorically feel that as judges."
When she was announced as the new judge, Carrie, 41, shared that the show "feels like home", adding, "I feel like being on both sides of the coin, I'll be able to hopefully offer some insight and help."
She also revealed that contestants should expect her to be honest.
"I can't lie. I just can't," she shared. "You can tell. I feel like I'll be very honest, but hopefully, you know, I can be very constructive and encouraging."
Katy announced last February that she'd be leaving the show after six years. She explained to Jimmy Kimmel, "I love the show so much, but I want to go see the world and maybe bring new music."
