Nirvana stages surprise reunion at FireAid benefit concert
Nirvana staged a surprise reunion at the FireAid benefit concert on Thursday night.
The surviving members of the iconic rock band shocked fans when they took to the stage at the FireAid Benefit Concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
The star-studded event, which was split between two venues, was held to raise money for those affected by the wildfires that have devastated the California region.
The unannounced performance saw the band's surviving members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl and longtime touring guitarist Pat Smear team up with St Vincent, Kim Gordon and Joan Jett, who stood in for late frontman Kurt Cobain.
The band wowed the crowd with renditions of some of their greatest hits, including Breed, with St Vincent on vocals, School, led by longtime friend of the band Gordon, and Territorial P**sings, featuring Jett on vocals.
For the final track, the band welcomed Grohl's 18-year-old daughter, Violet Grohl, to the stage. She sang lead on Nirvana's hit All Apologies.
The concert marked the second time the band had performed the four-song set, having played at Nirvana's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, although Lorde had performed instead of Violet.
Other performers at the Kia Forum included Pink, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Joni Mitchell and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
At the second venue, the Intuit Dome, the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sting, Olivia Rodrigo, Katy Perry and Billie Eilish took to the stage.
The last artist to perform was Lady Gaga, who treated fans to a brand new song written with her fiancé Michael Polansky.
"Me and my friend Michael - my fiancé, my love - we wrote this song for you," she told the crowd. "It's just for tonight. It's just for you. I think we all need a lot of things right now, but I think something we may also need is time. Time is a healer."
In addition to the new song, Gaga sang Shallow and Always Remember Us This Way from her film A Star Is Born.
