Britney Spears admits she drinks to cope with heartache in candid post
Britney Spears has admitted she sometimes drinks to cope with heartache.
The Toxic singer opened up about her past conservatorship and emotional struggles, claiming she was "100% abused".
Britney, 42, shared a post on Thursday featuring a golden chalice and photos from past magazine shoots taken during her conservatorship.
Alongside the images, she reflected on how she was "controlled" during the legal arrangement, claiming she was "abused" whenever she tried to speak out.
"I don't like drinking," Britney wrote. "I do it for my heart when it's been through too much but I'm weird. I take on a lot of pain. I honestly shouldn't, and I put in a lot of work people will never see."
She went on to describe her experience under the conservatorship, saying, "I was in a business that preyed over the innocent and controlled where I went, who I saw, what I ate, which is 100% unfair, and if I spoke up I was abused and I never did anything wrong!!!"
The conservatorship, which lasted from 2008 to 2021, was primarily overseen by her father, Jamie Spears.
Britney has repeatedly spoken out against her treatment during that time, previously alleging she was forced to take medication and undergo medical procedures against her will.
Spears also shared that the only time she ever felt "beautiful" in a photoshoot was when she worked with photographer Ellen Von Unwerth in New York.
Britney's latest comments come as she continues to navigate life post-conservatorship, having recently rekindled her relationship with her former housekeper, Paul Soliz, following her divorce from Sam Asghari in 2023.
