Mel B on Spice Girls: 'I’d love to go on tour but there are four other girls to get together'
10 March 2025
Spice Girl Mel B joined Simon Mayo on his Greatest Hits Radio Drivetime show to talk about her new starring role in children’s animation Happy Town.
Mel narrates all 60 episodes and as she shares with Simon – who was himself the voice of a biscuit for an animated TV advert back in the day – she surprised herself with how good she was in spite of her dyslexia…
Mel B said: It’s very tricky, I worked hard and I ended up being really good but at the start it was an effort [because of her dyslexia]. The first few episodes took me about three or four hours each but by the time I was on episode 21 – yes it did take me that long – I was smashing out four episodes in two or three hours. I shocked myself!’
With several Spice Girls anniversaries coming up Simon had to ask about reunion plans and Mel was giving nothing away: ‘I’m always saying we’re going on tour tomorrow or next week but there are four other girls who have to get together and do the whole schedule… I’m not telling you but I do think we are going to be doing something… I’d love to go on tour. It’s quite a milestone to say that we’re still in people’s ears and played on radio stations.’
Away from the Spice Girls Mel has several other projects on the go including a new Apple TV+ reality series which see her and Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, travel to South Korea to immerse themselves in the world of K Pop.
She also said: ‘I’m going to be married this year, I’m hoping to set up my own foundation for survivors and I’m going to be 50 this year… Ice baths are a saviour, I love an ice bath – I went back to college last year and passed my course in trauma informed care so I’m very conscious and understanding of how the brain works and how you can calm yourself down without taking medication…’
