James Arthur delivered a powerful and heartfelt performance as he headlined the Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday. The superstar captivated fans with hits like "Say You Won't Let Go" and "Rewrite The Stars," while also taking a moment to honor a dear friend he lost to cancer.
The night was particularly significant for GK, lead singer of special guests Venus Grrrls, who was supported by Teenage Cancer Trust during her own battle with cancer. Before performing the haunting "Glisten," she urged the audience to donate, emphasizing the importance of the charity’s work.
The concert series, running from March 24-30, features a stellar lineup, including The Who, The Corrs, a comedy night hosted by Micky Flanagan, and a special Erased Tapes showcase. The event continues to raise vital funds for young people with cancer.
Arthur opened with "Bitter Sweet Love," electrifying the audience, before reflecting on the cause: "I need to take this in, not just for us, but for this amazing cause." Hits like "Impossible" and "Celebrate" followed, before he paused to discuss mental health: "To be vulnerable is to be courageous. It does not make you weak."
He then paid tribute to his late friend Wayne, introducing "Car’s Outside" with a moving story of their time together: "Wayne was always there, driving me around at all hours. He was the best guy ever, taken from us too soon. This song will always remind me of him."
Arthur's upcoming album, PISCES, set for release on April 25, continues his deeply personal musical journey. The Teenage Cancer Trust concerts, founded by Roger Daltrey, have raised £34 million since 2000, ensuring specialized care for young people battling cancer.
