In a nostalgic and surprising revelation on Greatest Hits Radio, Chesney Hawkes shared a slice of his teenage years that involved a brush with pop royalty — quite literally on his paper round.

Speaking to Ken Bruce on his weekday show (Monday to Friday, 10am–1pm), the “One and Only” singer recounted his days as a paperboy in the quaint town of Sunningdale, where his delivery route included none other than global chart-topper Billy Ocean.

"Back when I was a kid, we lived in a little town called Sunningdale, and Billy Ocean lived in the next road along from us," Hawkes told Bruce. "When I was about 14, I was his paperboy."

Chesney revealed that the "Caribbean Queen" singer had quite the appetite for newspapers, receiving a hefty stack daily — including the dreaded Sunday delivery. "He had all the papers," Hawkes laughed. "And Sunday was the worst — the Sunday Times was the size of a brick!"

Despite the heavy load, Hawkes remembered the job fondly, especially thanks to Ocean’s generosity. "He was a good tipper!" he added.

Who knew that long before topping the charts, Chesney Hawkes was already serving musical greatness — one doorstep at a time.
