Ed Sheeran doesn't want to bring up his kids in "the Richie Rich house".

The British hitmaker has revealed that his wife Cherry Seaborn is keen to give their daughters, Lyra, four, and Jupiter, two, as normal a childhood as possible.

Speaking on the latest episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, Ed explained that Cherry, whom he married in 2019, keeps his outlandish ideas in check.

"Cherry is the biggest grounding force," the Shape of You hitmaker said. "Anytime there is something a little bit too Hollywood, she'll be like, 'Bro, cmon.'"

"Especially because I grew up with her, there's always just a lens of Suffolk over it," Ed continued, referring to the English county where he and his wife grew up.

As an example, the singer told Alex that he once wanted to build a bowling alley in the back garden of their Suffolk home, but Cherry shut down the idea.

"She knew we didn't need that," Ed recalled. "She doesn't want our kids growing up in the Richie Rich house where there's literally McDonald's in our back garden."

The Castle on the Hill singer was referring to the 1995 film Richie Rich, which starred Macaulay Culkin as "the world's richest boy", who lived a luxurious but lonely life as the son of a billionaire businessman.

Ed may not have built a bowling alley, but he does have a cinema, pub and recording studio on his property, which are connected to his house via tunnels that he described as his "man catacombs".

He explained that he built the pub so he could enjoy alcohol without the public's watchful gaze.

"I built a pub in my garden because there used to be this pub I would go to, where I'd go to blow off steam. And it got to that point where people knew I went there, so I couldn't go as much and get as drunk as I'd like," he shared.
