SZA was "relieved" when her appearance during Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show was reduced because it gave her less opportunity to mess up.
During the sports extravaganza in February, the Kill Bill hitmaker took to the stage at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana to perform with her frequent collaborator Kendrick.
SZA, real name Solana Rowe, revealed on The Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller & Adam Scott that she was initially supposed to be on stage for longer and was relieved when her time got reduced.
"My performance was initially longer with a different song and I was actually relieved (when it changed as it meant) that I had less opportunity to harm myself on camera or in public," she divulged. "I just couldn't believe that I was a part of it."
SZA and Kendrick performed their collaborations Luther and All of the Stars towards the end of the set. She did not reveal what other song they were initially going to perform, but their other duets include Gloria, Babylon, Doves in the Wind and 30 for 30.
The Snooze hitmaker, who has been open about her struggles with anxiety, also shared that she meditated before the show to help calm her nerves.
"I was really shook only because it is the biggest stage I'll ever do in my career. I don't really know where I can go from there. I was just like, I don't know if I'm gonna survive," she said. "I did a lot of meditation and a lot of breathwork, which I normally don't do, but I've learned recently, it's kind of saving my life. It's the only thing that keeps me calm."
Following their Halftime Show performance, SZA and Kendrick are heading out on the road on The Grand National Tour. Their joint North American tour kicks off on 19 April in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
