Pete Doherty shares amputation fears caused by drinking
Pete Doherty has revealed he was told he was at risk of having parts of his body amputated due to his unhealthy lifestyle.
The 46-year-old musician has been an open book about his struggles over the years - having battled drug addiction and endured drinking-fuelled legal issues.
Opening up to the Happy Place podcast, the Babyshambles and Libertines frontman has revealed doctors warned him he may need to have his toes amputated as they became damaged by his bad approach to personal health.
He said: "The toes went really wrong. They went - this is not very chic - they went all black, and then they were gonna have to come off.
"So I had to amend my diet and stop drinking. They're kind of on the mend now. In the meantime, I have to wear these orthopedic shoes."
The singer, who has previously been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, went on to explain he is managing to get by with less alcohol.
He said: "It's alright. It's easier than in the past. I'm letting myself have a drink once in a while, like every ten days, but something has shifted in me.
"That way I was before, it was just an integral part of everything. It's sort of faded now."
Last month, Doherty teased plans for a Babyshambles reunion after the band went on hiatus in 2014.
The Albion singer said during a solo show in Newcastle, "Babyshambles, coming to a town near you this year."
