This morning, Jarvis Cocker was a guest on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Radio 2, where it was revealed that Pulp will be performing two world exclusive live sessions for both BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 In Concert in May. The sets will be recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre in London’s Broadcasting House, with the band playing some of their most loved hits, as well as tracks from their upcoming album, More.
On 6 Music and BBC Sounds, Pulp’s intimate session - called 6 Music Session: Pulp Live - will be broadcast in Nick Grimshaw’s show on Thursday 29th May (7-10am), alongside an interview between Nick and the band. The 6 Music session follows the station’s world premiere of Pulp’s new single, Spike Island, which was shared by Lauren Laverne on her 6 Music show (weekdays 10am-1pm) on Thursday 10th April.
For Radio 2 In Concert, Pulp will perform in front of a small audience of lucky fans at the BBC Radio Theatre on Wednesday 7th May. It will be broadcast in Jo Whiley’s show on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds (7-9pm) on Thursday 29th May, which will also feature an interview. On Friday 30th May, The Scott Mills Breakfast Show (6.30-9.30am) on Radio 2 will also feature some exclusive tracks from the recording from 9am.
Pulp’s 6 Music performance will also be available in vision on BBC iPlayer from Thursday 29th May and on demand for 30 days. The band’s Radio 2 in Concert will also be broadcast on BBC Two in June and then be available on BBC iPlayer.
Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, said: “We are really looking forward to this. From my time at 6 Music, I remember that the BBC Radio Theatre is a very intimate venue. As long as we can fit all our equipment in there it’s going to be great to play some songs for Radio 2 and 6 Music.”
Nick Grimshaw said: “It was amazing to hear Pulp’s new music exclusively on Lauren’s show last week. I’m so excited to hear more from their new album as part of their 6 Music session and to speak to the band about the process of writing and recording their first album in almost 24 years.”
Jo Whiley said: “I have been a fan of Pulp for as long as I have been presenting on the radio, and it’s a joy to still be following their hugely successful career all these years later. I’m so looking forward to hearing all those songs that have such personal significance to me - and to our Radio 2 listeners - as they play to a small audience of lucky fans in the BBC Radio Theatre next month.”
