A$AP Rocky apologises to woman he facepalmed at 2023 Met Gala
A$AP Rocky has formally apologised to the woman he facepalmed at the 2023 Met Gala.
Ahead of the annual fashion event two years ago, the rapper - real name Rakim Mayers - was filmed attempting to enter The Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan, New York City.
Surrounded by a wall of fans, Rocky used an onlooker's shoulder to hoist himself over the barricade, during which he knocked the woman's glasses askew.
Addressing the viral moment during a video for Vogue's Life in Looks series published on Tuesday, the hip-hop star insisted the interaction was a total accident.
"I was gonna be late for the Met Gala," he explained. "I was trying to get in my room, and this poor young little lady, man, I didn't even know that I messed up her glasses."
Rocky went on to issue a sincere apology to the woman.
"To whoever that young lady was. Again, I apologise. I'm so sorry. I ain't mean to do that, sweetheart. My fault," the 36-year-old added.
After a clip of Rocky facepalming the woman started circulating online following the 2023 Met Gala, the fan posted a selfie on Twitter, now known as X.
"A$AP Rocky just literally jumped over me," she wrote, to which the father-of-two replied, "LOL MY FAULT $WEETHEART."
The woman also revealed that Rocky had started following her account.
"I'm printing this on a T-shirt," she joked, adding: "Why is A$AP now oomf (one of my friends)?"
Rocky attended the 2023 bash with his longtime girlfriend, Rihanna.
Alongside Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, the A$AP Forever hitmaker will serve as co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala.
The star-studded event, which accompanies The Costume Institute's new exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will be held on 5 May.
