Harry Styles was spotted in the crowd in the Vatican City as the new Pope was unveiled on Thursday.

The former One Direction star was among the thousands of spectators who gathered in St Peter's Square in Vatican City, Rome, as Pope Leo XIV was announced as the new leader of the Catholic Church.

Harry was photographed keeping a low profile as he watched the first American to be named Pope, wearing a grey cap emblazoned with the words "techno is my boyfriend", a navy jacket and large black sunglasses.

Despite his apparent efforts to avoid attention, he was recognised by a number of fans, who took to social media to share snaps of him in the crowd.

One fan wrote on X, "Of course Harry Styles was in Rome waiting for the new Pope to be announced. Where else would he be."

While another penned, "Harry Styles is so random, one day he's at the grammys winning album of the year, then he's running a marathon in japan, but he could also be in rome waiting for the announcement of the new pope, i love being his fan (sic)."

The British singer-songwriter has not revealed why he was in Rome this week.

Harry's trip to Italy comes weeks after he was spotted running a marathon in Tokyo, Japan, in March.

Robert Francis Prevost, who will be known as Pope Leo XIV, takes over as leader of the Catholic Church following the death of Pope Francis, who died on 21 April aged 88 after 12 years in the role.
