Gloria Estefan could never follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez and become a judge on a TV talent show.
The Cuban American singer is known as the ‘Queen of Latin Pop’ and has sold over 100 million albums sold worldwide.
The Grammy Award-winning star insists she could never critique someone else’s performance, despite her huge success as an artist.
"It's so hard for me to judge. You could see it on [American] Idol when you watch Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Not once did they ever say to somebody that they were no good or that they sounded bad because they're artists. We know what it takes to get up there and put yourself out there,” she told Parade magazine.
“At least we don't have to stand there while people critique us right in front of our face. It's tough for me to do that kind of thing. I would be more of a mentor than any judge."
Gloria is back with a new album, Miss Little Havana. The international sensation took a few years away from the spotlight to focus on motherhood and family life.
The record is produced by Pharrell Williams, and Gloria explains that the process felt right.
"It happened naturally. Pharrell and I share a trainer and he kept telling me, 'Pharrell wants to talk to you. He's got an idea.' So we set up a meeting and he brought me Miss Little Havana. He also lives in Miami, so we wanted to make a Miami-feeling record,” she explained.
“When I heard the songs, it sparked such curiosity in me to see what kind of baby we could come up with. When we got into the studio we clicked. It was just so easy. It poured out.”
Gloria has been married to music producer Emilio Estefan for 33 years. The 54-year-old star and her husband are astounded by her longevity in the music industry.
"I always tell Emilio, women in the entertainment industry are kind of like athletes, you have a window and then suddenly you're gone,” she said. “So I feel so fortunate that so many years later I'm still making music and there's still fans that want to hear it."
