In the span of just three years, Drake has captured the temperament and thoughts of a generation.
He is no doubt one of hip-hop’s most beloved artists, with his more emotional approach to the genre winning over the sentimental side in all of us. With Take Care about to drop, GQ.com sits down with Drake and learns the meaning behind the album’s title and lyrics, what Drake wants to be remembered for, and if he is really as overemotional as some like to believe.
Drake on his new album: "’Take Care’ is this thing we use in passing conversation to dismiss bullshit like, ‘Oh, you couldn't make it on time? Oh, take care, take care.’ We've always used that and then I really took so much care making this album.”
…on what he wants to be known for: “I just want to be remembered as a poet that was open and honest because I wake up every morning and I'm me.”
…on being thought of as emotional: “I wish that we lived in a time and a generation where people would stop viewing my honesty as overly emotional. People always act like I spend my life crying in a dark room. I don't, I'm good. I'm a man.”
