Green Day have posted a short 21 second video featuring footage of their first day back in the studio to work on their next album.

The band chose Valentine’s Day (February 14) to commence work on the follow-up for their ninth studio album, the follow-up to 2009’s ‘21st Century Breakdown’.

Billie Joe Armstrong alerted fans to that the band was back at work via Twitter. “Happy Valentine’s day! Officially started recording the new record today. It’s F— TIME!!!!,” he tweeted.

The band have debuted a number of new songs during their most recent gigs. ‘Cigarettes and Valentines’ was a song that featured a few times live last year. There is also expected to be another new song called ‘Amy’, about Amy Winehouse.

The album is planned for a 2012 release.
