Madonna ‘MDNA’ is taking on Lionel Richie ‘Tuskegee’ for the top spot on the US album chart this week and Madonna will win.

‘MDNA’ looks set to sell around 325,000 units in the first week not only beating Lionel with a projected 140,000 sales but also beating her previous debut from ‘Hard Candy’ in 2008 that did 280,000.

However, Lionel is doing better on digital sales than Madonna with his album grabbing no. 1 on iTunes on its first day of release.

Lionel Richie should be happy with the results. His last album ‘Just Go’ (2009) sold 19,000 in the first week and ended up with sales of just 95,000.

‘Hard Candy’ has sold 741,000 units since release.
