Rita Ora can’t see Beyoncé Knowles as anything other than “the boss’ wife”.
The up-and-coming British singer is signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label and he has been vocal about how successful he thinks she’ll be.
She loves working with the rapper and knows people are amazed that she is never star-struck by him or his famous spouse.
“Beyoncé comes into the studio when I’m recording. She’s there for advice if I’m struggling with a lyric or concept of a song. But it’s weird because, even though I love her, for me it’s the boss’ wife,” she laughed to the British edition of Grazia magazine.
Rita can vividly remember what it was like to first meet Jay-Z. She got a call saying she was being flown over to the US when she was shopping and couldn’t believe her eyes when she came face-to-face with him.
“I arrived at New York airport wearing an old Run DMC T-shirt and leggings and was taken straight to the Roc Nation Christmas party, wheeling my suitcase,” she said. “I’d just come off the flight, hadn’t slept and had barely any make-up on. Standing in front of all these people, a big crowd parted and, there I was face-to-face with Jay-Z. I was so scared I thought I might throw up. He just gave me this massive grin.”
