Adam Levine says having therapy for his parents’ divorce was “a waste of time” because he got over it so quickly.
The Maroon 5 rocker’s mother and father told him they were officially separating when he was seven. They were concerned it would have a terrible effect on him so found someone for him to talk to, which Adam maintains wasn’t needed.
“They couldn’t accept the fact that I might have been OK with it. I cried my eyes out and kicked and screamed and said, ‘Why?’ and all the things you do when you find out. A few days later I was fine but I still had to go to therapy. It was such a waste of time,” he told Q magazine.
Adam went on to discuss how he spent some of his adolescent. He dabbled in drugs, although he is quick to point out there are some substances he has never tried.
He is happy to talk about his experiences but does not condone drug use.
“I’ve done drugs. I smoked a lot of pot when I was younger. There is a place in this world for a little weed every once in a while. I’ve written songs after smoking a joint and it was good. More often than not it’s absolute garbage,” he said.
“Cocaine just shouldn’t be. It’s brought no good into the world… I’m not saying, you should do drugs. I hope that’s clear.”
