Florence Welch loves performing in front of “an apocalyptic scene”.
The Florence + the Machine star took to the stage at the T in the Park music festival in Scotland over the weekend. The weather wasn’t great, but that didn’t put the flame-haired star off.
“I was promised a monsoon! I like an apocalyptic scene to perform in front of,” she laughed.
The show tied in with the third anniversary of her debut album Lungs. Florence paid tribute to that by singing tracks included on the record, which she’s started to like more and more.
“I listened to it on the way from the hotel here and it’s actually quite a good album,” she told NME backstage. “With about a year’s distance, I was like, ‘Actually, I’m pleased with that.’ Which is funny, because normally I never am.”
Florence was delighted to perform in Scotland because she loves the people there. She feels an affinity with the county which she thinks is apparent in her music.
“The Celts are always the toughest but at the same time emotional – they’ll always sing along,” she said. “I’ve always been fascinated by battle hymns and things that sound like invading hordes. I don’t know if that rings true with some of the ancient spirits of Scotland.”
