Jennifer Lopez says her decision to leave American Idol was a “gut reaction”.
The star admits that plenty of influencing factors came into play before she made up her mind. In the end Jennifer knew she had to trust her instinct which was to return to doing what she does best - performing on stage.
“The main thing I go with is my gut and my gut was telling me to go back to the things I do. As much as I love the show I’m a performer, I’m an actress and I’m an entrepreneur,” Jennifer told Access Hollywood. “I’ve been a judge for two years which was an amazing experience, but it’s just not what I do. It is time for me to move on.”
One of the factors that influenced Jennifer was Steven Tyler’s departure from the panel.
The singer says getting the right mix of judges is the key to success for American Idol. She believes producers will find it difficult to recreate the winning formula again for the next season.
“It’s such a delicate thing to find chemistry for the panel. When Steven walked away as well, I thought, ‘Oh it’s going to be so different,’” Jennifer continued. “I think they are going to have their work cut out for them to find that balance again and find that magic that happens between the people who sit there.”
