Rita Ora once slept on the beach for two nights because she couldn’t afford a hotel.
The British singer has enjoyed success with her catchy tracks, such as Hot Right Now and How We Do (Party).
However, the 22-year-old can remember a time before she could splash out on lavish accommodation - when she resorted to sleeping outside during a holiday in Spain.
“I was on holiday in Barcelona when I was 17, with my older sister. I was on the beach and I actually had no money, so I slept on the beach for two nights!” she recalled to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.
“I slept on top of my suitcase. But I had the best time! Even now I can stay in hotels, nothing can beat that experience on the beach. I made friends with everyone; there were a lot of people who were sleeping on the beach! I dug a little hole as my toilet, and there was my home!”
Whereas fame and fortune have their upsides, the star does have to put up with paparazzi trying to take her picture whenever she’s out.
Rita revealed a recent moment when she hopped on a bus to escape the keen photographers.
“We got on the bus because I thought they [the paparazzi] wouldn’t know when I was gonna get off. I didn’t know how I was gonna pay for it, I had no money on me. I said, ‘I’m so sorry, I don’t know how to pay for this,’ and he said, ‘Oh, don’t worry.’ I think he was just fed up! Him driving a bus all day,” she laughed.
“We got off the next stop and we ran into this coffee shop and hid at the back. And I think they didn’t find us for about a minute, but then I saw this man standing outside and I was like ‘Ah, forget it.’ I don’t hate them you know, you have to remember they need us as much as we need them.”
