Psy released ‘Gentleman’, his first new single since ‘Gangnam Style’, this week and it seems to be generating more interest in his home country than the growing tension in North Korea.
‘Gentleman’ is another dance track, with obvious similarities in song structure to his massive 2012 hit, ‘Gangnam Style’.
Psy co-composed the electronic music and wrote the lyrics for the song, which pokes fun at a self-claimed gentleman who enjoys his time at a dance club.
There has been no video released for the song yet, but it will be hard to top the viral frenzy created by the now infamous ‘Gangnam Style’ dance from his previous film clip, the core component of which involves miming riding a horse.
With tensions growing daily between North and South Korea, Psy has provided perhaps a welcome distraction for citizens of the latter, with CNN’s Australian reporter Anna Coren recently saying that South Koreans seem to be more interested in Psy’s new single than the situation to the north.
This is in contrast to the US, who, according to The Washington Post, have been making more searches for North Korea this month than for Obama and Beyonce. A quick check of Google trends today however, suggests that after a brief spike in searches over Easter, order has been restored, with Kim Kardashian back to being a more popular search term in the US than both Obama and North Korea.
According to Psy’s manager, Hwang Kyu-wan, the video for ‘Gentleman’ will be unveiled at his concert in Seoul on Sunday, after which it will be uploaded onto YouTube.
