Kendrick Lamar says Macklemore is “a genuine dude”.

Macklemore publically texted Lamar after the Grammys, apologizing for his win and saying Kendrick was “robbed”.

Kendrick has made it clear he doesn’t have anything against the Thrift Shop star, and says the singer wholly deserved his win.

"That text surprised me, but Macklemore is a genuine dude," Kendrick told Billboard. "However it panned out, I wish him much success. He touched people's souls, and no one can take that away. Really, the whole Grammy moment was incredible. Not everyone gets that shot."

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis swept the board at the awards ceremony, winning Best New Artist and three other trophies.

The pair beat out a host of other artists including Kendrick, causing widespread criticism amongst his fans.

"You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have," Macklemore said afterwards. "It's weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love."

Kendrick has previously stated he thinks the Grammys are at fault for not having more categories featuring rap and hip-hop. The musician says the genre has become so mainstream, it appeals to everyone.

“I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions,” he told XXL Magazine.

Kendrick is not dwelling on the Grammys – he is working hard on his new album, which has a tentative release date for September 2014.

"Our thing is not being confined to whatever everybody else is doing or what's supposed to be the 'it' thing," the rapper said. "We building our brand just by doing what we wanna do. The sound we that like and love...the people followed that."
