The Subways are back! Welwyn Garden City’s finest return with a special one off summer single ‘My Heart Is Pumping to a Brand New Beat’ on June 23rd, via the bands own label YFE (Young For Eternity) Records. Check out the amazing video below.
The video was created by Steven Mertens, a director and animator based in Los Angeles. Employing the “multi-plane” method first developed by Walt Disney Studios in the 1930’s, Steven creates fantastic worlds and abstract stories from cut out paper. Before starting his career in animation, he toured extensively as a session bass player with The Moldy Peaches, Adam Green, and Here We Go Magic, among others.
Written, produced and mixed by Billy, the single will be released to mark 10 years since they won the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition as an unsigned act with an average age of just 17. The new logo and single artwork was designed by a Hungarian fan – who originally contacted the band via Facebook. The band loved the results so much they have asked her to design their next album cover.
Having recently broken new ground by playing South Africa & Russia, their recent UK live return saw a packed out performance at The Great Escape Festival, headlining Concorde 2 on the Saturday night, their first UK show in almost a year. Alongside Glastonbury, the band recently headlined the Camden Rocks Festival in London, and have a main stage slot at this year's Hurricane / Southside Festival in Germany,
They are currently residing in Brussels writing songs for what will be their 4th album.
Billy Lunn on ‘My Heart Is Pumping to a Brand New Beat’: “I wrote this song because I wanted to capture the power of the dancefloor, the music and the people! Hopefully it'll get the moshpit pumping and everyone up for a good time!”
