Katy Perry has been announced as the top digital artist of all time.
The Dark Horse singer was crowned the new RIAA Gold & Platinum Program's top digital artist of all time with 72 million digital singles sold, which includes downloads and on-demand streams. That's 20 million more than any other artist.
“Katy Perry is a force to be reckoned with in music. We are honoured to recognize Katy as the most successful digital artist in Gold & Platinum Program history,” said RIAA Chairman & CEO Cary Sherman during a ceremony at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. “She embodies all that makes a true global superstar: the musical talent, the extraordinary drive and genuine charisma, and an intrinsic connection with her fans. This award is a reflection of her deep commitment to those qualities and to her music, which has propelled her to this historic milestone."
Katy first broke onto the music scene with 2008 smash I Kissed a Girl. Follow up hits having included Firework, Roar and California Gurls. With so much success under her belt Katy could be forgiven for taking her foot off the gas but the reality is the complete opposite. As well as embarking on her massive Prismatic World Tour, the 29-year-old recently announced the launch of her own record label called Metamorphosis Music, which is a joint venture with Capitol Records.
“I am so ECSTATIC to finally announce my NEW label Metamorphosis Music & my first signing, the incredibly talented & soulful FERRAS! @ferras” Katy tweeted on June 17.
