Tim McGraw denies slapping a fan at his Atlanta concert.
Video footage published by TMZ went viral Thursday after the outlet claimed the country music crooner could be seen “ferociously” slapping a woman in the face during his show at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood on Sunday.
But Tim’s rep insists the Grammy-winner was merely defending himself against an overzealous fan.
"At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd," his spokesperson told E! News.
"He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing!), and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show. He didn't know who had grabbed him and was simply trying to keep his jeans from being torn,” his rep continued.
The 47-year-old singer, who is married to fellow superstar Faith Hill, was applauded just days ago after he serenaded a young female fan at the same very concert.
People magazine reports he saw the young woman in the crowd while performing You Are So Beautiful for his wife and their three daughters and invited her to join him on stage and finish the tune.
He then signed his guitar and presented it to her in front of the crowd, which erupted in cheers.
