BBC Radio 1 have announced Andy C, TSHA, Ben UFO, Dance System, Elkka and Mantra as the newest members of the Radio 1 Residency line-up.

From Thursday 3rd March, Radio 1’s Residency will continue on the network and Radio 1 Dance with a brand new and exciting line-up. Radio 1’s Residency brings listeners into the world of the biggest names in pioneering, high-energy Dance music from across the international club scene.

The line-up for March, April and May is as follows:

March: TSHA and Dance System
April: Andy C and Elkka
May: Ben UFO and Mantra

TSHA
Self-taught DJ TSHA has been widely recognised as one of the most rapidly emerging DJs currently coming out of the UK. Following a successful 2021, which included the release of her critically acclaimed second EP and a number of main stage appearances at Dance music festivals, TSHA continues to be noticed by industry influencers and outlets such as Annie Mac, DJ Mag, Billboard and Spotify for her warm, groove-laden basslines and melodic hooks.

TSHA says, “BBC Radio 1 has been an essential stepping stone for me over the past few years, so it’s an absolute honour to have been given my first ever residency on the platform. Expect an introduction to my favourite Acid House tracks and Ibiza selections, as well as a collection of music that has provided constant inspiration along the way. I can’t wait to share some of my most-loved tracks with you all.”

Dance System
With a career spanning over fifteen years, Brighton’s James Connolly (AKA L-Vis 1990) has been described as ‘helping to shape the world of Electronic music’. As well as co-founding the Night Slugs label and most recently launching System Records, he has previously been supported by Radio 1 as one of Danny Howard’s ‘Artists to Watch’ in 2020 and even gaining a track declared as Annie Mac’s ‘Lockdown Anthem’. James has gone on to be endorsed by the likes of Calvin Harris and The Blessed Madonna for his natural gift of creating “perfect records”.

Dance System says, “It's such a crazy honour to be joining Radio 1 to host my own Residency! My obsession with Dance music started back in the mid-90s and Radio 1 was such a massive part of that, especially before I could get in to clubs. When I was fourteen, I was given a copy of Daft Punk's BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and that was the catalyst for me to get decks and start buying records. Here I am in 2022 making music to capture the energy of that time and now I have the opportunity to bring it to a new generation on the station that was such a big part of my journey. Can’t wait!"

Andy C
Andy C is described as a ‘legend of Drum and Bass’, who has sold out some of the biggest music venues across the world, while collecting accolades such as DJ Mag’s Best British DJ and Best Bass DJ at the Ibiza Awards along the way. As one of the most influential British artists in the global Dance scene and figurehead of Ram Records, Andy C has also been credited for developing musical talent such as Chase and Status, Wilkinson and Sub Focus.

Andy C says, “It’s an incredible honour to be asked to join the Radio 1 Residency for the month of April and represent the music I love. I’ll be bringing you mixes, exclusives and showcasing the most exciting genre of music in the world right now… Drum & Bass”.

Elkka
Femme culture boss Elkka makes music which toes the line between House, Electronica, percussive beats and dreamy vocals. Her breakthrough hit in 2021 'Burnt Orange', was heavily supported by Radio 1 and she went on to be awarded BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year and BBC Music Introducing Artist Of The Year. Elkka continues to immerse herself in her art - from expansive, high-energy DJ sets to her encapsulating live shows.
Elkka says, “I grew up listening to Radio 1 on the way to school, so to now be a Radio 1 Resident is an absolute dream come true! I cannot wait to bring you the music I know and love, a cross-pollination of my harmonic and euphoric inspirations - old and new. I love pulling in the unexpected and taking my listeners on a journey full of warmth and nostalgia. Here we go!”

Ben UFO
Ben UFO is one-third of the team behind the Hessle Audio record label, which has been responsible for some of the most ground-breaking and enduring Dance music in the UK over the past decade. One of the most in demand DJs on the global festival and club circuit, Ben UFO continues to explore his craft by playing in a fluid cross-genre style, which has become a touchstone for a new generation of DJs and producers around the world.

Ben UFO says, “It's a huge honour to be invited to take over BBC Radio 1's Residency. Radio has been the most integral aspect of my career for the past ten years and has totally shaped the way I play music in clubs and at festivals. I'm looking forward to sharing the music I love with a wider audience with no compromises - digging into the history of UK Club music and playing all the unreleased material I'm excited about in 2022.”

Mantra
Known for her deep, emotive sets that push the boundaries of Drum and Bass, DJ and producer Mantra brings an intense passion into her selection. Having played in clubs across Europe and America, Mantra’s talent, skill and passion has landed her features in Resident Advisor, DJ Mag and Mixmag. Community work has also played a vital role in her life and in December 2018, she started an initiative to mentor, uplift and support women, trans and non-binary people within the male-dominated Drum and Bass genre.

Mantra says, “What a buzz to be able to play Drum & Bass, Jungle, Hardcore and everything on its outer edges on BBC Radio 1! It’s a huge honour and something I’ve wanted to do for years. I want to push new music as much as possible but good music is good music and there are also some beautiful lesser-known Old Skool gems that will be getting dropped. Bring it on!”
