Soprano Carly Paoli, a Classical Brit nominee, and BBC Music Ambassador, has been confirmed as the soloist for the BBC Radio 2 and BBC Concert Orchestra’s - Royalty on Screen – A Jubilee Celebration, which is taking place on 1 June 2022 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and will be broadcast by BBC Radio 2 on Sunday 5 June at 7.00 pm.
With conductor Bramwell Tovey at the helm, Royalty on Screen marks the first Sunday Night Is Music Night live audience event since the pandemic. The audience will enjoy an evening of music with a distinctly royal flavour from the big and small screen, performed as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Carly, the English soprano with Italian roots has recently been touring the UK as a special guest on Aled Jones’ Cathedral Tour. Described by Pope Francis as having ‘the voice of an angel’, Carly has headlined in some of the world’s great concert halls including Carnegie Hall in New York and Jordan Hall in Boston, and at Windsor Castle and St James’ Palace where she performed for TRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Discussing the concert Carly Paoli said “I am so honoured to have been invited to perform at this very special concert that will celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I grew up watching Hollywood musicals and they fostered a love, not just of their music, but by extension, the genius of musical theatre, so to be able to perform songs from these genres with the BBC Concert Orchestra for this very special occasion means a great deal to me. The last time I sang with the orchestra in front of a live audience was at their pre pandemic event at the London Palladium on 3 March 2020 with Joseph Calleja, making this particularly poignant.”
Carly recently topped the Classical Album Chart with her most recent outing Carly Paoli & Friends – an album of duets featuring the likes of Elaine Paige, Aled Jones, Joseph Calleja and Tony Hadley, amongst others.
